REGULATIONS FOR THE BOOK, NEWSPAPER AND ARCHIVE COLLECTIONS AT THE JOAN FUSTER HOUSE
REGULATIONS FOR THE BOOK COLLECTION AT THE JOAN FUSTER HOUSE
In accordance with what is set forth in chapter V, section C/II of the document “Transfer of the testamentary legacy of the writer Joan Fuster”, approved at the plenary session of the City Council of Sueca on 3 March 2011, and countersigned by the heir Mr. Josep Palàcios Martínez and the Mayor of the city, Joan Baldoví Roda, on 15 March 2011, following are the clauses which establish and regulate the Book Collection of the Joan Fuster House and the use thereof.
FIRST –
Concerning the materials and the sections that constitute the book collection:
– Section A or the Joan Fuster Ortells Library (JFOL)
This consists of the book collection of the legatee from his private home on Calle Sant Josep on the day of his death, on 21 June 1992.
The collection is made up of books and printed pamphlets.
In no case may obsolete, deteriorated, mutilated or duplicate copies of this section be removed.
The copies that form part of this section shall be ordered on the shelves by the corresponding consecutive number.
– Section B or Complementary Section of the Joan Fuster Ortells Library (JFOCS)
This section is made up of:
I- Reprintings and new editions of books and pamphlets whose total or partial authorship is attributed to the legatee and which were printed after his death, together with those dealing with his life and work, up to a maximum of three copies per title.
II – The books, catalogues and pamphlets of/about the legatee incorporated into the fund after his death, even if there is already a copy thereof in section A, up to a maximum of three copies per edition in both this and the previous section.
III- Books, catalogues and pamphlets in which there are relevant references to the legatee.
That is to say, when Fuster plays a special textual or visual role therein, when he is quoted in a significant way and when his image is on the cover of the copy, or at least in the illustrations inside.
The Centre Management shall have the power to acquire copies that do not exist in this section, with which to enrich the content of the collection, as well as to accept or reject donations, always taking into account the relationship of the content with the legatee.
There will be room in this section for up to three copies of the same edition.
Titles exceeding this amount will be sent to the Municipal Library of Sueca to form part of the local section.
Copies from this section may only be removed if they can be replaced by others of the same edition.
The books, catalogues and brochures that form part of this section will be ordered topographically in accordance with the U.D.C.
– Sección C o Auxiliar de la Biblioteca Joan Fuster Ortells (ABJFO)
Está formada por:
I.- El resto de libros, catálogos y folletos existentes en la Casa Joan Fuster en la fecha de aprobación de este Reglamento y no incorporados a las dos secciones anteriores.
II.- Los títulos procedentes de donaciones hechas por particulares, instituciones y empresas, que se incorporen al fondo a partir de la aprobación de este Reglamento. En este caso, la Dirección del Centro tendrá la potestad de aceptar donaciones, parcialmente o en su totalidad.
Tan sólo se conservará en esta sección un ejemplar por título y edición. El resto se derivarán a los fondos generales de la Biblioteca Municipal de Sueca.
Únicamente se podrán expurgar los ejemplares deteriorados de esta sección cuando se puedan reemplazar por otros de la misma edición.
Los libros, los catálogos y los folletos que forman parte de esta sección se ordenarán topográficamente de acuerdo con la C.D.U.
– Section C or the Auxiliary Section of the Joan Fuster Ortells Library (JFOLA)
This section is made up of:
I –All the other books, catalogues and pamphlets existing in the Joan Fuster House on the date of the approval of these Regulations and not included in the previous two sections.
II – Books from donations made by individuals, institutions and companies that were included in the collection after the approval of these Regulations. In this case, the Centre Management shall have the power to accept donations, either partially or in their entirety.
Only one copy per title and edition will be kept in this section. The rest will be sent to the general collection at the Municipal Library of Sueca.
Damaged copies in this section may only be removed if they can be replaced by others of the same edition.
The books, catalogues and brochures that form part of this section will be ordered topographically in accordance with the U.D.C.
Conditions for consulting the book collection:
A) Consulting the book collection of the Joan Fuster House is restricted, for reasons of preservation and security, to researchers who can reliably prove their position as such, and provided that they are at least eighteen years old.
B) Such researchers must make an appointment, by telephone or e-mail, at least forty-eight hours in advance. The collection is open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays from 09:00 to 14:00. The officer responsible for the service shall always be present in the reading room.
C) Requests for consulting books shall be made in writing on the order form provided by the officer in charge of the service, where, in addition to basic personal data, the purpose of the research will have to be specified. Applicants shall fill in a form for each copy requested, and together with this, shall leave their ID card or other ID document in deposit.
D) A maximum of three copies may be consulted at the same time.
E) Consulting books that form part of the collection shall necessarily be carried out in the room set up for this purpose; books may not be removed from this room under any circumstances.
F) The officer in charge of the book collection, in agreement with the Centre Management, may restrict access to copies of delicate conservation and in a fragile state, or to those which by their nature cannot be the object of public consultation.
G) You can only go into the reading room with a notebook, pencil and laptop computer or similar instruments. Pens, markers, erasers, folders, books, bags, packages, envelopes, backpacks, laptop sleeves, warm clothing, etc. are not allowed in the room; neither is food or drink of any kind.
H) It is forbidden to make notes on the books. Any violation of this rule will be pursued ex officio by the institutions responsible for preserving this bibliographic legacy, and if appropriate, penalized in the manner provided by law.
I) The use of mobile phones is not allowed in the reading room. Devices such as cameras, videos and similar instruments are not permitted either, unless accompanied by an authorization signed by the collection managers.
Concerning the rules for photocopying the book collection:
A) Reproduction of up to a maximum of ten per cent of the pages of the requested book will be authorized, provided that the copy is not for profit and is exclusively for research purposes.
B) The use of copies for public or commercial purposes is not authorized, regardless of the type, measure or final support, except in cases that the Management considers to be of interest for the dissemination of the life and work of the legatee, provided that the conditions set are respected and that the respective holders of the intellectual property rights, i.e. of the texts, images and supports, have given their express authorization.
C) The personnel in charge of the collection will assess the physical state of the books requested in order to decide on the most suitable type of reproduction, either photocopying by scanner or photography.
D) A specific regulation will fix the fees that users will have to pay for the reproduction of the materials.
Concerning the rules for loans of the book collection:
A) The temporary loan of books from the collection to higher academic institutions and socio-cultural foundations that formally request a loan in writing will be authorized, provided that it is for exhibition activities and that the conditions established by means of a specific agreement are fulfilled.
The applicant entity shall include with the request a plan of the space where the exhibition will take place, specifying the environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, maximum lighting, etc.) and security conditions of the room (security personnel, alarm, fire system, etc.), as well as the characteristics of the showcases in which the book(s) will be displayed (measurements, closing system, lighting, etc.).
The agreement shall state the purpose of the loan, the place of destination and its validity, as well as the obligations in terms of packaging, transport, insurance, handling and security of the books lent.
B) The applicant entity shall accept the presence of a representative or officer to supervise compliance with the conditions specified in the preceding paragraph and shall assume the expenses arising from per diems and travel.
C) The loan of books for activities that are not strictly for exhibitions or that are for editorial purposes, and permanent loans, are forbidden.
D) It shall be an indispensable condition to cite the origin of the materials lent in accordance with Management’s instructions.
FIFTH.-
Final:
The Centre Management reserves the right to resolve any question of interpretation or any matter not dealt with in these Regulations.
REGULATIONS FOR THE NEWSPAPER COLLECTION AT THE JOAN FUSTER HOUSE
FIRST.-
Concerning the materials and sections that make up the Newspaper Collection:
– Section A or the Joan Fuster Ortells Newspaper Library (JFONL)
This collection is made up of the legatee’s newspaper collection (newspapers, colour supplements, magazines, yearbooks, almanacs, etc.), which were in his private home on Sant Josep Street on the day of his death, on 21 June 1992.
The collection includes all printed documents with the following characteristics: content produced by several authors, regular periodicity and indeterminate duration.
Excluded from this collection are the dossiers that the legatee produced with the cuttings of journalistic articles of his own authorship, those that deal with him and those that he used as working elements.
These dossiers form part of the archive collection.
In no case may obsolete, deteriorated, mutilated or duplicate items in this section be removed.
The items that form part of this section shall be ordered on the shelves taking into account, preferably, the size, the current formal state (bound, in boxes or loose numbers), the title, and finally, the date.
– Section B or the Auxiliary Section of the Joan Fuster Ortells Newspaper Library (JFOANS)
This section is made up of the newspaper materials incorporated into the collection after the legatee’s death, up to a maximum of two copies per number, including, if appropriate, copies in Section A.
Copies of colour supplements, journals, yearbooks, almanacs, etc. incorporated into this section shall be kept complete, and as in the previous section, shall be ordered on the shelves taking into account preferably the size, the current formal state (bound, in boxes or loose numbers), the title, and finally, the date.
For journals, full copies will only be added to the collection when the presence of the legatee is very evident on the front page or inside. Otherwise, the page where the content of interest appears will be extracted and ordered chronologically in a specific press dossier within this section.
The Centre Management shall have the power to decide which collections should be kept or started; as well as to determine whether it is appropriate to incorporate single copies into the collection, judging by the relation of the content to the legatee.
Conditions for consulting the archive collection:
A) Consulting the archive collection of the Joan Fuster House is restricted, for reasons of preservation and security, to researchers who can reliably prove their position as such, and provided that they are at least eighteen years old.

In any case, it will be essential to cite the origin of the document in copies for public or commercial use, in any format.
C) The personnel in charge of the collection will assess the physical state of the documents requested in order to decide on the most suitable type of reproduction for the preservation of the document.
D) A specific regulation will fix the fees that users will have to pay for the reproduction of the materials.

C) The loan of pieces from this collection for activities that are not strictly for exhibitions or are for editorial purposes, and permanent loans, are forbidden.
D) It shall be an indispensable condition to cite the origin of the materials lent in accordance with Management’s instructions.
E) In return for the loan, the Centre Management may ask the applicant to clean or restore the materials lent for exhibition.
FIFTH.-
Final:
The Centre Management reserves the right to resolve any question of interpretation or any matter not dealt with in these Regulations.
REGULATIONS FOR THE ARCHIVE FUND OF THE JOAN FUSTER HOUSE
FIRST.-
Concerning the materials and sections that make up the archive collection:
– Section A or the Joan Fuster Ortells Archive (JFOA)
This collection is made up of the documents and personal objects existing in Fuster’s private home on Calle Sant Josep on the day of his death, on 21 June 1992.
The collection is made up of the following series:
I) “Personal and family documentation”, II) “Creative work”, III) “Labour documentation”, IV) “Documentation on asset management”, V) “Correspondence”, VI) “Graphic documentation”, VII) “Audiovisual and audio library”, VIII) “Personal objects” and IX) “Miscellaneous”.
Under no circumstances may documents forming part of this section be removed.
– AC Section or Materials incorporated into the Joan Fuster Ortells Archive (MIJFOA)
This collection is made up of documents that are related to the legatee and have been incorporated into the collection after the legatee’s death.
The units shall be grouped according to the series listed in the previous section.
These documents may come from acquisitions or donations; they may be original or reproduced in any type of support.
The Centre Management shall have the power to acquire documents and other materials that do not exist in the above section, with which to enrich the content of the collection, as well as to accept or reject donations, always taking into account the relationship of the content with the legatee.
– Section B or the Juan Fuster Seguí Archive (JFSA)
This collection consists of documents and personal objects belonging to Joan Fuster Seguí on the day of the legatee’s death, on 21 June 1992. The collection is grouped according to the following series: I) “Personal and family documentation”, II) “Labour documentation”, III) “Documentation on asset management”, IV) “Correspondence”, V) “Graphic documentation”, VI) “Political propaganda”, and VII) “Miscellaneous”.
Under no circumstances may documents forming part of this section be removed.
– Section BC or Materials incorporated into the Juan Fuster Seguí Archive (MIJFSA)
This collection is made up of documents related to the legatee’s father and which were incorporated into the collection after his death.
The units shall be grouped according to the series listed in the previous section.
These documents may come from acquisitions or donations; they may be original or reproduced in any type of support.
The Centre Management shall have the power to accept or acquire documents to include in this section, always taking into account the relationship of the content with the legatee’s father.
Conditions for consulting the archive collection:
A) Consulting the archive collection of the Joan Fuster House is restricted, for reasons of preservation and security, to researchers who can reliably prove their position as such, and provided that they are at least eighteen years old.
